Transcript – Inner Junction of Doublet Microtubules in Motile and Non-Motile Cilia

Chlamydomonas reinharditii is a free living, single cell, growing algae that can be cultured in large quantity in a short period of time. The flagella can be detached from the cell body and then the cell regenerates the flagella in 16 minutes. The flagella axiom represents an ideal scaffold for constructing protein nano arrays. To explore the flagella, Atheneum as a synthetic template, constructs are made for expressing fusion proteins that can anchor doublet microtubules of flagella hexing. We have engineered strains expressing heavy metal binding proteins. The cells cultured from the engineered strain are now ready to be used to develop. It can be used to reduce heavy metals in wastewater or contaminate the environment.
